What have we learned about the Jewish ness of the day Jesus
died?
Passover - Nisan - springtime - March / April - Jesus died on
Friday
*He died on the preparation day of the Sabbath John 19:31 -
A body cannot remain on cross on Sabbath day of
preparation - Jewish law- Deut 21:23.
*Day of Preparation for Sabbath:
All bodies had to be of crosses - Jewish
Legs were broken to keep from exhaling
Jesus was Passover lamb - could not break his legs or
everything would be a lie - Jewish
Ex 12:46 - Jewish law- no bone of Passover lamb could be
broken
God, therefore, through the centuries prior to Christ had to
manipulate the minds of the Romans in their perfecting the
cross as a torture device so that they developed it in the
fashion in which they did. With the Patibulem placed in the
notches of the Stipes in order to disjoint Jesus' body and
have the footrest so they could break their legs. God was
pushing it in the face of the Romans and Jews that no bone
could be broken on the Passover Lamb by the fact that Jesus
was dead already when they came around to break his legs in
order to get him into the grave before 6:00pm - the beginning
of the Sabbath - This is Jewish - The Bible is Jewish law. It
is Jewish culture - all arranged by God in his Kosmos
(orderly arrangement) John 3:16
The Roman development of crucifixion on a cross was
ordained in their mind and thinking in order to fulfill the
Jewish Passover where Jesus will be crucified - This is God
working all things Eph 1:11 including the evil in the minds of
men.
We've also learned on the day of Preparation, the day Jesus
died, the Jews had to do 3 things:
1. pay tithe
2. erubhick - set up a place for Sabbath dwelling - all
food and dwelling (Sabbaths' day journey)
3. Light candle before Sabbath began at 6pm. This was
the Sabbath drawing on - Luke 23:54 - draw on -
epiphosko - shine, grow light, dawn. Sabbath did
not dawn in the morning, but before 6:00 in the
evening; before when the Sabbath candles were lit.
We have learned concerning the day Jesus died that a part of
a day was the whole. Synecdoche is a term that the Jews
used to express this.
He resurrected 'on' the third day not after 72 hrs (3 days & 3
nights). Jesus rose on the 1st day of the week which was the
3rd day in the tomb - Luke 24:1,21
